When you’re offered a training contract it can be quite daunting, particularly if you’re moving to a new area away from friends and family. However, there’s no need to worry as you’ll soon find that there’s plenty to do here!
At Michelmores, we currently recruit eight trainees a year. That’s 15 ready-made friends who are all in exactly your position. The trainees become both your friends and your support network – it’s great to be able to discuss your experiences with other people who are in the same boat, particularly at seat rotation time.
The training contract is the perfect opportunity to get to know people across the Firm as you move team (or even office) every six months. That’s not as daunting as it sounds, as everyone is very friendly and welcoming. There are also plenty of ‘clubs’ to join. I am a member of the gym, the running club and the Michelmores Choir, but there’s also table tennis, netball, yoga and football to name just a few.
Outside of work there’s always lots going on. Michelmores has strong ties with the Junior Lawyers Division (JLD) and several trainees are on the committee. The socials are a great way to meet junior lawyers from other firms across the area.
In addition, Michelmores has a very full social calendar of its own – from quizzes to balls and everything in between. The highlight has got to be the annual summer ball. A no-expense spared extravaganza! Last year’s theme was ‘The Great Gatsby‘ which involved lots of feathers and flapper dresses. This year’s theme is still a closely guarded secret, but I’m sure it’ll be equally brilliant.
In conclusion, there’s no need to worry about your social life here. The biggest problem is making time to fit it all in!
