The South Devon College based South West Energy Centre proved to be the big winner at the Michelmores Annual Property Awards 2014 held at St Mellion International Resort and hosted by top comedian, author and broadcaster, Dominic Holland.
The ‘one-stop-hub’ for information and training for the energy/low-carbon sector and emerging industries, became the first entry in the Awards’ 12 year history to win in two categories – Building of the Year and Eco Project of the Year.
The state-of-the-art Research, Innovation, Learning and Development Centre (RILD), a partnership between the University of Exeter Medical School and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, was the winner in the Blue Riband category of Commercial Project of the Year with a Value Over £5million, while Eagle House, the ‘gateway’ building which represents the start of the Exeter Science Park won Commercial Project of the Year with a Value Under £5million.
The painstaking sustainable conservation of Torre Abbey, which includes two Grade I and four Grade II listed buildings of national importance impressed the judges and was named Heritage Project of the Year, and St Ives based architects, Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole took home the John Laurence Award for Professional Firm of the Year.
Residential projects to win awards included Beechfield View, Torquay, a flagship mixed tenure sustainable eco-development and Gilbury Hill in Lostwithiel, a development providing affordable homes to families with a local connection to the town.

The categories are designed for commercial and residential property projects of all shapes and sizes and the winners were announced on 08 May 2014 at an Awards Dinner at St Mellion International Resort.
