Congratulations to The Dawlish Railway Project, winner of The Special Infrastructure Award at the Michelmores Property Awards 2015.
On 4 February 2014, storms swept the UK resulting in severe damage to a 4.5 mile length of sea wall and railway line – stretching from Dawlish Warren to Teignmouth. Homes behind the sea wall were also badly damaged. A heroic effort between the Network Rail project team, four Mott MacDonald employees on secondment and a number of other contractors, successfully re-established the railway within eight weeks of the disastrous storm. Mott MacDonald provided cost consultancy and project management services on the project – working closely with the Network Rail team to ensure the project was delivered on time and to specification. The emergency repair project cost £35m.
