Shortlist revealed for Property Awards 2014

The shortlist for the Michelmores Property Awards 2014 has been announced.

The awards are the region’s premier property competition, showcasing the very best in Westcountry property projects, buildings and firms.

Among the contenders for the prestigious Commercial Project of the Year with a Value Over £5million award is the dramatic new Sainsbury’s in Penzance and a remarkable new educational facility in Plymouth, the University Technical College, where pupils over the age of 14 can study practical engineering using top-spec technology. Also on the shortlist is The Research, Innovation, Learning and Development Centre in Exeter, where cutting edge studies into diabetes are undertaken.

The categories are designed for commercial and residential property projects of all shapes and sizes. The winners will be announced on 8 May 2014 at an awards ceremony to be held at St Mellion International Resort in Cornwall.

To be shortlisted for an award gives entrants the prestige of recognition by their peers. This year, the quality of entries was impressive and in particular demonstrated the region’s strength in the science and technology sector. There was a palpable sense of optimism that our region is coming out of difficult economic times.

Another hard-fought category in the awards was Building of the Year. This shortlist includes the new South West Energy Centre in Paignton, where the latest energy-saving technologies are on display to the public, as well as students at South Devon College. The building includes a fully-functioning PassivHaus eco home, which is being lived in and trialled by local families. Also on the shortlist is the Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre in Exeter, which has sporting facilities for all the community including a climbing wall with caving tunnels and a disabled lift allowing wheelchair users to go kayaking.

Entry into the awards offers the opportunity for high profile publicity, as the Western Morning News will be publishing coverage on all those shortlisted leading up to the awards dinner and detailed case studies of all the winners following the ceremony.

Previous big name winners have included the Forum at The University of Exeter, Plymouth Life Centre, Princesshay Shopping Centre in Exeter, Plymouth’s Roland Levinsky Building and Heartlands in Pool, Cornwall.
