The shortlist has been announced for the 2017 Michelmores Property Awards, which celebrate outstanding property and construction projects in Bristol, Devon, Somerset, Dorset and Cornwall, across ten categories.
A panel of ten judges with expertise across the property and construction sector and in-depth knowledge of the region, came together for the judging day on 24 March 2017 to shortlist an impressive list of submissions.
The shortlisted projects for Category 1: Commercial Project of the Year are:
Exeter Cricket Ground Development, Exeter – submitted by LHC Urbanism + Architecture
The development at Exeter Cricket Ground comprises a student accommodation scheme for over 150 students, and a contemporary Cricket Pavillion. The student accommodation consists of four separate blocks, with views into the cricket ground. The new pavillion provides ‘fit for purpose’ accommodation, to facilitate growth of the club and to provide additional facilities for both the club and community.
One Research Way, Plymouth Science Park, Plymouth – submitted by HLM Architects and BAM Construct UK
One Research Way, phase five of the Plymouth Science Park, offers eleven business units which range in size from 870 to 2,680 sq. ft. The units incorporate a flexible, innovative design that can accommodate businesses of up to 80 people on each of its three floors. 30% of the space on each floor consists of contemporary break-out space and ‘pod’ style meeting areas.
BBC Plymouth, Plymouth – submitted by AWW inspired environments
The refurbishment of BBC Plymouth’s new home saw the modernisation of the existing building to allow for state-of-the-art broadcasting technology and modern work spaces for staff. A flexible floor plan now enables the entire news team to work in a single space, whilst proving greater accessibility to the various internal floor levels in the building.
The General, Bristol – submitted by Hydrock
The General, a multi-use development in the heart of Bristol saw the transformation of the former Bristol General Hospital into over 200 one to four-bedroom apartments. Some of the properties, which include a converted chapel and a penthouse apartment in the famous octagonal tower, are set around a central courtyard, whilst others offer views across the Bathurst Basin.
