Legal 500 2023

I am an Associate in Michelmores’ Planning Team, having joined the Firm as a Trainee.

I specialise in advising on highway and sewer adoption matters, along with points on general infrastructure. I am also involved in a number of strategically important schemes for regional and national house builders, advising on technical matters to tight deadlines.

I have considerable experience in negotiating S106 Agreements, Deeds of Variation and related Deeds of Discharge for a variety of clients including developers, landed estates, local authorities, national house builders, other government bodies and landowners, enabling me to anticipate issues that may arise from all angles.

My advisory experience extends to supporting a broad range of clients on matters of listed buildings, community infrastructure levy and permitted development rights. I recently provided listed buildings advice to a large public sector client on the sale of a historical building.

I also provide planning input into due diligence reports for the Firm’s corporate and real estate clients, notably recently providing input and advice into re-purposing a large site for battery storage for an up-and-coming energy sector developer/operator.

I was recently a panelist at the Thomson Reuters Women’s Industry event, inspiring junior women to voice their opinions, help build their confidence and fulfil their potential.

In my spare time, I enjoy pursuing a variety of outdoor activities, including wakeboarding, surfing and hiking on Dartmoor.

I am a recommended lawyer for Planning in the South West by the Legal 500.

Recent experience

Trusted advisor for matters of road and sewer adoption (and general infrastructure) for a number of national and regional house builders, carrying out a large amount of the infrastructure agreements and advice relating to these for these clients in the South-West.

Advising on a number of complex issues to assist with resolving adoption of the infrastructure at the Poundbury Development, negotiating with the advisors to the Duchy, the Council,  and a mix of other developers.

Providing crucial planning advice on the complex case law developments on S73 applications, resulting in the advice that a S73 application for a large development was not bound by a S106 Agreement. This had the effect that liability is legally removed for affordable housing, open space on the development and contributions in excess of £750,000.

Negotiating and completing a S106 Agreement for a strategically important yet controversial waterfront regeneration of a power station appeal site in North Devon. The scheme includes 250 new homes, employment space, cafes and restaurants and a unique community centre building and is estimated to bring £400 million to the local economy.
