About

Gerald is a highly experienced, senior member of the Construction and Engineering team who is recognised as a Senior Statesperson by independent legal guide, Chambers and Partners, as well as being a reccommended lawyer for Construction and Engineering by the Legal 500 directory. 

Gerald trained in London, qualified in 1989, moved to the West Country in 1991 and joined Michelmores in 2002.

Gerald specialises in dispute resolution within the construction industry, including sector related professional negligence business and the giving of pre-emptive advice.  He has c.25 experience in dispute resolution, including negotiation, mediation, adjudication, arbitration, and litigation, acting principally for developers and main contractors but also public and quasi-public authorities and NHS Trusts.

Gerald is a Deputy District Judge, Fellow of the Faculty of Building, Member of the Society of Construction Law and The Adjudication Society, and Member of the Professional Negligence Lawyers Association.

Recent Experience

  • Brought a number of successful high value actions on behalf of land owners against Water authorities following failures in the manner of the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.
  • Advised and represented London based NHS Trust in connection with shortcomings in the design and build performance of the Project Co under a PFI agreement; specifically the performance of a CHP.
  • Advised Northern Ireland NHS Trust on three separate projects each suffering M&E performance issues, one a specialist secure unit with very unusual and complex remediation solutions.  Involved consideration of responsibility of design team and main contractors.
  • Advised and represented main contractor in connection with variation and delay disruption claim arising out of highways works undertaken under the terms of LA framework agreement.
