The second Michelmores’ Sustainable Agriculture Conference was held on Wednesday 22 June at the M Shed in Bristol as part of the Week of Sustainability in Bristol alongside the Festival of Sustainable Business and Bristol Museums. The theme of the conference was “Restoring Habitants and Feeding a Nation” and the conference focussed on the issue of restoring biodiversity against a backdrop of increasing insecurity in global food production.
Over 100 delegates from some of the UK’s foremost organisations, charities and businesses operating in the Sustainable Economy sector attended, despite the national train strike.
Presentations were given by authorities in the key areas of regenerative farming, natural capital, agricultural technology, insect protein and biodiversity net gain credits. Speakers included:
- Tim Martin from Farm Wilder
- Mari Sibley from the Forestry Commission:
- John Hays from Deep Branch Biotech;
- Beccy Wilebore from Natural Capital Research;
- Richard Small from InsPro;
- Alexa Culver from Environment Bank
Delegates were also able to choose from a selection of workshops held in the afternoon of the conference with representatives from the agriculture, and sustainable economy sectors.
Of the conference, Rachel O’Connor, Partner in the Sustainable Agriculture team at Michelmores said:
‘We were delighted to host our second Sustainable Agriculture Conference as part of A Week of Sustainability in Bristol. There was a great buzz at the conference which aims to bring all parts of the agriculture sector together to discuss the innovations and practices that are tackling climate change, biodiversity loss and food security. Feedback from our delegates has been hugely positive with many enjoying the ability to get together in person’
The conference supported local conservation community interest company, Avon Needs Trees, by planting a tree for every delegate who attended the conference.
The Michelmores team at the conference included partners Rachel O’Connor (Sustainable Agriculture), Ben Sharples (Agriculture), David Thompson (Commercial), Vivienne Williams (Agriculture) and Chloe Vernon-Shore who is a Senior Associate in the Commercial team.
