Michelmores advises on the acquisition of land for South Devon College for future expansion

Michelmores has supported South Devon College in its acquisition of land to be used for sporting activities.

The Firm developed a strategy for the acquisition of the land in the context of it being a sub sale, the developer’s wider planning obligations and the College’s funding aspirations.

The development brings together funding from South Devon College, the Premier League & the FA Facilities Fund and Linden Homes to provide a 3G pitch  and sports pavilion as well as a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) pitch; catering for a range of sports and activities including football, netball, tennis and hockey for both local residents and College students.

The facility is being built by Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group. The purpose-built facility will ensure the delivery of education and training across the College’s activities including South Devon High School, the further education and higher education curriculum and a range of apprenticeship programmes. Both students and the community will benefit from state of the art resources and equipment. The new facility opens in late Autumn 2018.

Laurence Frewin, Vice Principal Corporate Services & Deputy CEO, South Devon College said:

“The excellent professional approach of Michelmores and their attention to deadlines allowed us to progress the deal to a very satisfactory conclusion.”

Emma Honey, Partner and Head of Real Estate, commented:

“This is one of several fantastic projects we have been involved with, and it is great to watch the College realise their ambitious programme. The exciting development will serve the community and inspire individuals to participate and enjoy spectator sports.”
