Michelmores is delighted to have been named ‘Advisory Firm of the Year’ at the 2019 South West Business Leader Awards.
Over 220 companies entered this year’s competition across 18 categories, with finalists being whittled down to no more than five companies per category by the independent judging panel.
Judges at the Business Leader Awards commented:
“The judges were looking for an advisory firm that could clearly demonstrate commitment to staff and well-being; client satisfaction and evidence of commercial performances and clear CSR plans. The judges said that Michelmores excelled in each area and were particularly impressed by how the firm is innovating around its client service delivery.
“Judges also said that the impact that Michelmores’ Mindful Business Charter and parental leave policies had for staff stood out – demonstrating real life results. When it came to commercial performance, judges said that the firm had recently achieved a record year of trading – which was impressive considering the investment in the business around areas such as staff development, innovation and CSR.”
The Firm’s award follows on from the appointment of Tim Richards as Managing Partner in May 2018. Tim has renewed the focus on the organisational culture of Michelmores, and in particular its people and clients – and what those two stakeholder groups require from Michelmores.
Tim has prioritised gender inclusivity, with a target of achieving a 30% female partnership by 2022. Flexible and agile working is promoted, and in May 2019 the Firm signed up to the Mindful Business Charter, aimed at mitigating unnecessary stress in the work place. The Firm has also launched “Mental Wellbeing at Michelmores” pledging to promote a culture of openness about mental wellbeing.
Through independent client feedback, Michelmores’ clients confirmed that they continue to value the personal chemistry and team work that typifies Michelmores lawyers. And the Firm won a number of new clients, including BRAC International, the world’s largest development organisation.
The Firm posted its 10th year of continue growth, with a record turnover of £39.1m, and has continued to grow its reputation in the Private Wealth market.
Tim Richards, Managing Partner commented:
“I am delighted that the Firm has been recognised for its work over the past 12 months in creating an even more inclusive working environment for our people, and continuing to deliver excellent client service. This award is a testament to the calibre of our people and the loyalty of our clients.”
Michelmores was also a runner up in the ‘Corporate Deal of the Year’ category in recognition for the work advising on a £16m investment into Cornwall-based fashion retailer Seasalt.
The Awards took place on Thursday 26 September at Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol, hosted by Michael Portillo.
