On 11 June 2015, 1,000 runners took to the streets of Exeter to take part in the Michelmores Charity Run, raising an impressive £29,354 for Macmillan Cancer Support – breaking last year’s record of £20,000.
The event saw runners complete a 5K City Centre course, beginning at Exeter’s historic Cathedral Yard and finishing at Exeter Castle.
2015’s race was started by ultra-marathon runner Kevin Carr, who holds two world records; the fastest man around the world and the first person to circumnavigate the world on foot and unsupported.
All money raised will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support, Michelmores’ Charity of the Year, the money raised from the run will be added to an overall total – to be released at the end of the year.
Bridget Hill, local fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support said;
“I am delighted that the Michelmores Charity 5K run was such a success this year and would like to thank Michelmores, all of the companies which sponsored the run and all of the runners who took part. I would also like to thank Premier Cottages for donating a holiday which was used as an additional incentive to increase sponsorship.
A fantastic amount has been raised and will be put to good use to help people affected by cancer.”
The Michelmores Charity Run was first held in 2000 and since then, has raised over £300,000 for local charities. Next year’s Michelmores Charity run is set to take place in September 2016.
