Michelmores has appointed Andrew Oldland, a barrister, Queen’s Counsel and part-time judge as its new Senior Partner. Andrew is the first barrister to hold the role of Senior Partner within a Top 100 law firm.
He succeeds Will Michelmore who has served as the Firm’s Senior Partner for 15 years and is a fifth generation lawyer in the Michelmore family, who established the Firm in 1887.
Will Michelmore will continue his role as a Partner in the Firm’s Private Wealth department, advising clients in the South West and nationally.
Andrew Oldland QC, who joined Michelmores from independent practice in 2011, is the co-head of the Finance and Investment Sector, one of the firm’s three strategic sectors. He has previously held a number of senior regulatory and prosecution roles and advises on all aspects of regulatory law with a focus on financial regulation and financial crime. Andrew is an experienced advocate and a Recorder of the Crown and County Courts.
Malcolm Dickinson, Michelmores’ Managing Partner commented:
“Will Michelmore took on the position of Senior Partner in 2002 and has been fantastically supportive in his 15 year tenure. Since Will took on the role, the Firm has grown from 170 staff to more than 450 today and has seen continued success in all areas – behind which he has been a driving force.
“Andrew’s appointment reflects the Firm’s commitment to be forward looking and innovative and demonstrates that the two limbs of the legal profession are closer now than they have ever been.”
Andrew Oldland QC added:
“It is a privilege to be taking on the role of Senior Partner and building on what has been a very successful period in Firm’s history. It is an exciting time for the Firm as we grow our operations across our three offices focusing on Finance & Investment, Private Wealth and Real Estate. We will continue to attract the best talent and to expand our national and international client base.”
