Michelmores has once again achieved outstanding results in the latest edition of the Chambers UK guide to the best law firms, with an impressive 14 departmental and 43 individual rankings, and 7 new or improved individual rankings.
Chambers and Partners has been the leading source of independent legal market intelligence for over 30 years. The Chambers UK guide’s legal market coverage and analysis covers 78 specialist areas of UK law, such as corporate/M&A, banking and finance, employment, and private wealth.
The Firm is pleased that it has received recognition with 4 top ranked teams in Band 1, and 8 top ranked individuals in Band 1 or above.
New rankings included both Josie Edwards and Rachel O’Connor, Partners in Michelmores’ renowned Agriculture team, being recognised as ‘Up-and-Coming’ lawyers – a category which lists those with an emerging reputation and who are driving their firm’s growth.
Julie Sharpe, a Transactional Real Estate Partner at the Firm, also received the Up-and-Coming accolade and Karen Williams, a Banking Restructuring and Insolvency team Partner, was newly listed in Band 4 in the Banking & Finance category.
We are also extremely proud that Michelmores’ Planning team’s expertise was recognised this year with our new Band 3 South West ranking. The team was strengthened last year with the arrival of Planning & Environment Partner, Helen Hutton, to Cheltenham. The Firm’s Cheltenham office opened at the end of 2021 and is headed up by Chris Massey, who leads the Firm’s Private Property and Landed Estates Team.
Michelmores’ growth and continued strengthening of expertise in areas that matter to our clients, is also reflected in this year’s Chambers UK 2024 guide. The Firm has been recognised with a number of improved rankings, including Tom Torkar, head of Michelmores’ Commercial team who leads the cross-practice Technology & Innovation group moved from Band 2 to Band 1 for Information Technology in the South West; Employment Partner James Baker, whose ranking in the South West moved from Band 3 to Band 2; and Sara Chisholm-Batten, a Partner in the Firm’s Commercial and Regulatory Disputes team moving from Band 4 to Band 3 for Litigation in the South West.
Another noteworthy success for Michelmores was the Firm’s continued ranking in Band 1 in the UK-wide Infrastructure: PFI/PPP category, with 4 ranked individuals within the team, including Carol McCormack OBE, Partner in the Projects team, being ranked in Band 1; Projects Partner Ben Hogan being ranked in Band 2; and Senior Associates Hannah Slater and Jo Spalding being named as ‘Associates to watch’.
Of the overall successes, Michelmores’ Managing Partner, Tim Richards said:
“Congratulations to my colleagues who have been recognised in this year’s Chambers UK guide as well as the teams who have achieved a new or improved ranking. This year’s listing brings the Firm’s rankings up to fifty-seven. It is a well-deserved mark of recognition for their hard work, and commitment to excellent client service.”
