The winners of the annual Michelmores Charity Run have been announced, which saw around 1,000 runners complete the 5k City Centre course on 11 June.
The fastest male was Owen Walpole who ran the distance in just 16 minutes and 6 seconds − followed in second place by James Denne who finished in 16 minutes and 15 seconds. Third place went to Michelmores’ Nathaniel Lane who covered the course in 16 minutes and 55 seconds.
The fastest woman was Cathy Newman with a time of 18 minutes and 32 seconds, with second place going to Emma Sharples who ran the distance in 18 minutes and 36 seconds. Third place went to Nicky Savill with a time of 19 minutes and 45 seconds.
Haldon Trail Runners were named the ‘Fastest Running Team’, with Landmark Information Group winning ‘Fastest Corporate Team’. The winner of ‘Largest Corporate Team’ went to Francis Clark, with an impressive 37 runners.
The race started at Exeter’s historic Cathedral Yard by ultra-marathon runner Kevin Carr and finished at Exeter Castle.
Now in its 16th year, the Michelmores Charity Run has raised over £300,000 for local charities. This year the run is expected to raise over £25,000 for Michelmores’ Charity of the Year, Macmillan Cancer Support.
