On 22 November 2012, a few of the first year trainees (along with a HR representative, a NQ and a future trainee) attended the University of Exeter Law Fair. Despite the torrential rain, the majority of exhibitors were able to attend although 17 had to pull out due to train cancellations (and possibly not being able to swim (!) through the floodwaters). Thankfully, the Exeter office is only a short drive from the University so we braved the storm and arrived looking relatively kempt and ready for action.
We were impressed with the turnout on the day, especially given the weather. We had a number of students approach us throughout the afternoon that were interested in Michelmores, particularly penultimate year undergraduates. It was great to be on the other side of the process for the first time and, having been at Michelmores two and a half months now, I felt quite equipped to answer most of their questions.
The firm had invited a future trainee, who will be starting their Training Contract with Michelmores in September 2014, to come along. This was a great idea as firstly, the current trainees were able to get to know him in preparation for his start in a couple of years’ time, but also students were able to talk to someone who has been through the application process even more recently than we have! It also meant that a few students spotted a familiar face and so felt a little less apprehensive about approaching our stand.
Hopefully the students at the Fair found the opportunity to talk to representatives from the firm, and current/future trainees, useful. I really enjoyed the afternoon and I am looking forward to next years’ Law Fair Season!
