Michelmores has won Corporate Law Firm of the Year at the Insider South West Dealmakers Awards 2016. The annual awards event recognises the achievements of the region’s dealmaking community across 11 categories.
Michelmores’ Corporate team also acted on two other winning deals from the evening, including the sale of Aero Stanrew to TT Electronics winner of ‘Deal of the Year’, as well as the Magic Seaweed sale to SurfStitch, which took home ‘Small Deal of the Year’ (under £15m).
During 2015/16 the team has acted on a number of key deals in the South West and nationally, including the investment by Mobeus into Tushingham Sails (Red Paddle Co) and Haynes Publishing Group’s acquisition of Teon Media.
Richard Cobb, Partner in the Corporate team at Michelmores, said:
“It has been an exceptionally busy year for the whole team and it is great to receive such wide recognition amongst our peers at the Dealmakers Awards.”
Graham Southorn, editor of South West Business Insider, said the region was the best performing in the UK’s corporate finance bounceback in the past five years.
“Since 2011, when deal volumes started to pick up again, the South West deals recovery has been really strong – stronger than anywhere else, in fact, in terms of the growth stats,” he said. “UK-wide, deal volumes have been up every year by between 8 per cent and 12 per cent since 2011, but the South West is doing better still. We’ve seen growth of between 10 per cent and 15 per cent every individual year for five years straight now.”
