Michelmores has advised Mindful Chef on its £2m crowdfunding on the Crowdcube platform, coming just over a year after Mindful Chef’s £1m funding round on Seedrs. This makes Mindful Chef the first company to have closed rounds on both platforms. New investors include Giles Brook (CEO of Vita Coco) and Mark Philip-Sorensen (Director of People Against Dirty – owners of the Ecover and Method eco-detergent brands).
Launched in 2015 by Exeter school friends Rob Grieg-Gran, Giles Humphries and Myles Hopper, Mindful Chef is a healthy recipe-box company that has already delivered over 500,000 recipes nationwide featuring locally-sourced ingredients. Existing investors include sports stars Victoria Pendleton CBE, Sir Andy Murray and Will Greenwood CBE.
The company had initially looked to raise £1m, but was quickly oversubscribed. It intends to apply the funds towards improving its marketing strategy and developing technology that will support its farm-to-fork model.
Giles Humphries, co-founder of Mindful Chef, commented:
“People are more interested than ever in cooking healthy meals from locally-sourced ingredients, and we’re really proud to be helping them to do that. We’re pleased to have raised on Crowdcube, as this gives all the people who believe in what Mindful Chef does the chance to invest and support our growth.”
Luke Lang, co-founder of Crowdcube, added:
“With multi-million pound revenues Mindful Chef has proven the popularity of its healthy food recipe products and is led by a talented team who are hugely committed to achieving their vision.
“We’re proud to be connecting them with investors on our platform as the company continues its growth. It’s good to be working with a business that has strong roots in the South West too, just like Crowdcube.”
