The Michelmores Legacy Team supports charities on a daily basis by helping them to connect gifts kindly donated to them via their supporters’ Wills and towards supporting their overall charitable objectives. Legacy fundraising is vitally important to charities in helping them to secure income for their future charitable projects and for the benefit of their ultimate beneficiaries. Being immersed in the world of legacy giving, the enormous potential it has for charitable fundraising is clear to see.
Tony Cockayne and I were, therefore, delighted to be asked to attend and speak at the ‘International Workshop on Legacy Giving’ in Seoul, South Korea on 17 – 19 June 2019 hosted by the National Council of Charity in Korea together with Cancer Research UK and Remember A Charity.
The seminar took place over three days and was an opportunity to share our experiences of the legacy market and the associated legal system with leading charity CEOs, lawyers, accountants and legislators with a view to helping them create their own legacy fundraising system for South Korea. The country’s legacy market is still very much in its infancy and therefore the attendees were only too grateful to hear about our experiences and insights in to our legacy system.
It was a privilege to be involved in this thought leadership project and to be able to offer our continuing support to the initiative. The passion of those driving this project and the charitable foundations already present in South Korea left us with no doubt that this initiative creates huge potential for the emerging legacy market. The structures already in place in England and Wales, and our collective experience, offers an exciting foundation upon which the market can be developed.
We wish the National Council of Charity in Korea all the best for the initial government consultation this month. We will certainly be watching the space…
