Homes For Ukraine Scheme goes live on Friday 18 March 2022
The UK government launched the ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme on Monday 14 March 2022, allowing both individuals and organisations to register their interest in providing a home to Ukrainians fleeing the conflict in Ukraine. From Friday 18 March 2022, this bespoke scheme will offer Ukrainians fleeing the conflict in Ukraine a route to safety with accommodation volunteered by individuals, charities, community groups and businesses in the UK.
This scheme will operate in two phases:
- Phase One of the scheme will allow sponsors in the UK to nominate a named Ukrainian or a named Ukrainian family to stay with them in their home or in a separate property. Individual sponsors will be asked to provide accommodation for as long as they are able, with a minimum stay of 6 months and, in return, they will receive £350 per month from the UK government.
- Phase Two will allow people to offer a home to help Ukrainians without any existing ties in the UK and will allow organisations to directly sponsor refugees. There has not yet been an announcement as to when this second phase will go live.
Those who have a named Ukrainian they wish to sponsor should contact them directly and prepare to fill in a visa application with all their details and that of the sponsor. The visa application will go live on Friday 18 March and individuals can register their interest here. Organisations may wish to consider what scope there is for them to sponsor individuals, particularly those with links to Ukraine.
